Smart SOA

Based on their experience on more than 1000 implementations, IBM has come up with a set of "guidelines and priciples" for the SOA implementation approach called Smart SOA.The goal of "Smart SOA" is to maximize both the business and IT value by applying principles of simplicity and robustness in every stages of SOA implementation.

The guideline divides the approach into four stages;
1) Basic - here the apporach concentrate more on service identification and process definitions on departments/sections of business rather than the entire business process.
2) Advanced - once the services and processes are identified and implemented in departmental level the next step is to connect them together to achieve more connected business processes.
3) Transformational - Use the technology for strategic advantage. This is the stage when the entire business processes are implemented using SOA technology.
4) Adaptation - This is the stage when the business process start adapting to change dynamically. This is the stage when business start getting strategy advantages from SOA.
